Buttercream Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • food coloring and sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Heat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line muffin tin with liners.
  2. Prepare batter: Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Cream butter and sugar, beat in eggs and vanilla. Mix in sour cream. Alternate adding flour and milk.
  3. Bake: Fill liners, bake for 18–22 minutes. Cool before frosting.
  4. Make frosting: Beat butter, add powdered sugar, vanilla, salt, and cream. Color if desired.
  5. Decorate: Frost cupcakes and add sprinkles.

Notes

  • Do not overbake for moist cupcakes.
