Description

This Beef and Broccoli Ramen is a quick and flavorful stir-fry dish combining tender sirloin steak, crisp broccoli florets, and perfectly cooked ramen noodles. Tossed in a savory homemade sauce featuring soy, hoisin, and sesame flavors, this recipe delivers a satisfying and colorful meal in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Sauce

  • 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 2 Tablespoons honey
  • 2 Tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1/2 Tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 Tablespoon grated ginger
  • pinch crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Noodles

  • 2 packages (3 ounces each) Ramen noodles (discard the seasoning packets)
  • 1/2 Tablespoon olive oil (divided)

Beef and Vegetables

  • 1 ½ pounds sirloin steak, trimmed and sliced into 1/4-inch thin pieces
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 ½ Tablespoons olive oil (divided)
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the low-sodium soy sauce and cornstarch until smooth. Add beef broth, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes if using. Whisk well to combine all ingredients thoroughly, then set the sauce aside.
  2. Cook the ramen noodles: Bring a medium pot of water to boil. Add the ramen noodles and cook until just tender, about 2 to 3 minutes. Drain the noodles and rinse them under cold water to stop cooking. Toss the noodles with ½ tablespoon of olive oil to prevent sticking, then cover until ready to use.
  3. Cook the steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the sliced sirloin steak, season with kosher salt and black pepper, and stir-fry for about 5 minutes or until the steak is cooked through. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside on a plate. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  4. Steam the broccoli: Add the remaining 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet along with the broccoli florets. Pour in ½ cup of water and cover the skillet with a lid. Steam the broccoli for a few minutes until it turns bright green and is fork-tender but still crisp.
  5. Combine all ingredients: Return the cooked steak to the skillet with the broccoli. Add the drained ramen noodles. Stir the prepared sauce well and pour it over the mixture in the skillet. Stir all ingredients thoroughly as the sauce thickens and warms through, ensuring everything is evenly coated and heated.
  6. Serve: Serve the beef and broccoli ramen hot, garnished with sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the ramen noodles; they should be slightly firm since they will cook more when combined with the sauce.
  • Using thinly sliced sirloin steak ensures quick cooking and tender beef.
  • Broccoli can be substituted with other vegetables like snap peas or bok choy if preferred.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes according to your preferred spice level or omit for a milder dish.
  • For gluten-free option, substitute soy sauce with tamari or a gluten-free soy sauce alternative.
