Ingredients
Scale
Big Mac Special Sauce
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons dill pickle relish
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar OR white distilled vinegar
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Hot Dogs & Assembly
- 8 bun-length beef hot dogs
- 8 hot dog buns
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 16 slices American cheese
- 2 cups shredded lettuce
- Dill pickle slices (about 3-4 slices per hot dog)
- Finely diced white onion (to taste)
Instructions
- Make Big Mac Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, dill pickle relish, ketchup, yellow mustard, apple cider vinegar, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt until well combined. Set this special sauce aside while you prepare the rest of the dish.
- Cook Hot Dogs: Cook the beef hot dogs using your preferred method. Options include grilling on an outdoor grill, cooking in a grill pan on the stovetop, or using a skillet. Cook until hot dogs are thoroughly heated and have a nice char or grill marks.
- Toast Buns: While the hot dogs are cooking, arrange the hot dog buns on a baking sheet and place them under the oven broiler just until warmed through, about 1-2 minutes. Remove from oven, then brush each bun with melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds for added flavor and texture.
- Melt Cheese: Place two slices of American cheese inside each toasted bun. Return the buns to the broiler for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and gooey.
- Assemble and Serve: Add approximately ¼ cup of shredded lettuce on top of the melted cheese in each bun. Place one grilled hot dog on top of the lettuce, then tuck 3-4 dill pickle slices along the side of the hot dog. Sprinkle finely diced white onion on top, and finally drizzle each hot dog generously with the prepared Big Mac special sauce. Serve immediately and enjoy.
Notes
- If you don’t have a broiler, you can toast buns in a toaster oven or on a grill.
- Customize toppings by adding tomato slices or cheese of your choice.
- Use beef hot dogs for authentic taste, but chicken or veggie hot dogs can be substituted if preferred.
- Make the Big Mac sauce in advance and refrigerate it for up to 3 days; flavors improve after resting.
- For a crispier bun, toast slightly longer but watch to avoid burning.
