Ingredients
Scale
Ground Beef Filling
- 1.5 lbs lean ground beef
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
- 10.5 oz can condensed cheddar cheese soup
- 10.5 oz can condensed cream of mushroom soup
- ½ cup milk
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
Biscuit Topping
- 1 box Cheddar Bay Biscuit mix
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 cups milk
Butter Topping
- ¼ cup butter, melted
- Seasoning packet from the biscuit mix
Garnish
- Fresh chopped parsley
Instructions
- Preheat and Brown Beef. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef along with the diced onions until fully cooked. Drain any excess grease to keep the filling from being too oily.
- Make Filling. Stir in the chopped garlic, condensed cheddar cheese soup, condensed cream of mushroom soup, ½ cup milk, salt, and black pepper into the browned beef and onions. Cook the mixture, stirring frequently, until all ingredients are well combined and heated through. Remove from heat and fold in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese until melted and incorporated.
- Assemble in Baking Dish. Lightly spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with cooking spray. Pour the prepared ground beef mixture into the dish and spread it evenly. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top to cover the filling.
- Make Biscuit Topping. In a mixing bowl, combine the Cheddar Bay Biscuit mix (excluding the seasoning packet), 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, and 2 cups milk. Stir well until a uniform batter forms.
- Top and Bake. Evenly pour and spread the biscuit batter over the ground beef and cheese layer in the baking dish. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 50-55 minutes, or until the biscuit topping is golden brown and cooked through.
- Make Butter Topping. While the cobbler is baking, melt ¼ cup of butter and mix it with the seasoning packet from the biscuit mix to create a flavorful butter topping.
- Finish and Serve. Once baking is complete, remove the cobbler from the oven and immediately brush the buttery seasoning mixture over the biscuit topping for extra flavor and shine. Let the cobbler rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley for a burst of color and freshness.
Notes
- Ensure you drain the ground beef well after browning to avoid a greasy cobbler.
- The biscuit mix seasoning packet is used in the melted butter topping to keep the flavors consistent and authentic.
- Letting the cobbler rest after baking helps the layers set, making it easier to serve clean slices.
- For spicier variation, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the beef mixture.
- This dish can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving for convenience.
