For the Caramel Frosting:
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups packed light brown sugar
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3–4 cups powdered sugar (as needed for consistency)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Prepare the cake: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. In a large bowl, cream softened butter and sugar, then add eggs and vanilla. Alternate adding flour mixture and milk, then divide batter between pans and bake for 25–30 minutes.
- Make the frosting: In a saucepan, melt butter, add brown sugar, cream, and vanilla. Beat in powdered sugar until thick and creamy.
- Finish the cake: Frost the cooled cake layers and spread frosting evenly. Allow to set slightly before slicing.
