Ingredients
Scale
Beef and Coating
- 1 pound Beef Strips (flank steak or sirloin)
- 1/2 cup Cornstarch (for coating)
- 1/4 cup Flour (can use whole wheat)
Sauce
- 1/2 cup Chili Sauce (adjust to heat preference)
- 1/4 cup Soy Sauce
- 2 tablespoons Sugar (or honey)
- 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon Ginger (minced)
Additional Ingredients
- 2 cups Rice (jasmine or basmati)
- 1/4 cup Green Onions (finely chopped)
- 2 tablespoons Sesame Seeds (for sprinkling)
- Oil for frying (about 1/2 cup)
Instructions
- Prepare the Rice: Cook the jasmine or basmati rice according to the package instructions until tender. Once cooked, set it aside and keep warm.
- Make the Batter: In a mixing bowl, combine the cornstarch and flour thoroughly. Coat the beef strips evenly with this mixture to ensure a crispy texture when fried.
- Fry the Beef: Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Carefully fry the coated beef strips until they turn golden brown and crispy, about 3-5 minutes. Remove the beef strips and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Prepare the Sauce: Using the same pan with a little oil leftover, sauté the minced garlic and ginger until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the chili sauce, soy sauce, and sugar. Stir and cook the sauce until it thickens slightly, about 2-3 minutes.
- Toss the Beef: Gently add the crispy beef strips back into the pan with the sauce. Toss well to coat each piece evenly with the flavorful sauce.
- Serve: Serve the crispy chili beef over the warm cooked rice. Garnish with finely chopped green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for extra flavor and texture.
Notes
- Adjust the chili sauce quantity to match your preferred spice level.
- Use whole wheat flour for a healthier coating option.
- If you want extra crispiness, double coat the beef by dipping it a second time in the flour mixture.
- You can substitute honey for sugar to add a natural sweetness to the sauce.
- For a gluten-free version, replace soy sauce with tamari and use gluten-free flour for coating.
