For the fish:
- 1 lb white fish fillets (like cod or tilapia)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 2 eggs (beaten)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- vegetable oil for frying
For the slaw:
- 2 cups shredded green cabbage
- 1/2 cup shredded purple cabbage
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- juice of 1 lime
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon sour cream
- salt and pepper to taste
For assembling:
- 8 small corn or flour tortillas (warmed)
- optional toppings: avocado slices, extra lime wedges, hot sauce
Instructions
- Pat the fish dry and cut into 2–3 inch strips. In separate bowls, place flour (seasoned with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper), beaten eggs, and panko breadcrumbs.
- Dredge each fish strip in flour, dip into eggs, then coat with panko. Heat 1/2 inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the fish in batches for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
- For the slaw, toss the green and purple cabbage with cilantro, lime juice, mayo, sour cream, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix until evenly coated.
- To assemble tacos, place a few pieces of crispy fish in each warm tortilla, top with a generous scoop of slaw, and finish with optional toppings like avocado or hot sauce. Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side.
Notes
- For a lighter version, bake the breaded fish at 425°F (220°C) for 15–18 minutes or air-fry at 400°F for 10–12 minutes.
- You can also use pre-shredded coleslaw mix to save time.
