Description
These Easy Turtle Bars combine a buttery, crumbly crust with rich caramel, crunchy pecans, and melted semi-sweet chocolate chips for a decadent homemade treat that’s perfect for dessert or sharing with friends.
Ingredients
Scale
Crust
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
Topping
- 1 cup caramel sauce
- 1 cup pecan halves
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking and allow easy removal.
- Make Crust Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, all-purpose flour, and granulated sugar. Stir until the mixture forms a crumbly dough.
- Press and Bake Crust: Press the crumbly dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is lightly golden, indicating it is set.
- Cool and Add Caramel: After baking, allow the crust to cool for about 5 minutes. Then spread the caramel sauce evenly over the warm crust to form the topping layer.
- Add Nuts and Chocolate: Sprinkle the pecan halves evenly over the caramel, followed by the semi-sweet chocolate chips to cover the top.
- Bake Again: Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes. This allows the caramel to bubble and the chocolate to soften and slightly melt.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the bars from the oven and let them cool completely before cutting into 12 squares to ensure they hold together for serving.
Notes
- Use high-quality caramel sauce for best flavor.
- Allow bars to cool fully to achieve clean cuts and to let the chocolate set.
- To store, keep bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for longer freshness.
- For an extra decadent touch, drizzle melted chocolate on top once cooled.
