Description

This Ground Beef and Potato Skillet is a hearty and comforting one-pan meal perfect for an easy weeknight dinner. Tender, seasoned potatoes are cooked alongside savory ground beef, onions, and garlic, then simmered in beef broth to blend the flavors. Optional melted cheddar cheese and fresh parsley add extra richness and freshness, making this skillet dish satisfying and flavorful.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 medium potatoes, diced into small cubes
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

Seasonings and Liquids

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef broth

Optional and Garnish

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Cook Potatoes: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced potatoes and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften and develop a light brown color. Remove the potatoes from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Brown the Beef: In the same skillet, add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess fat if necessary to avoid greasiness.
  3. Sauté Aromatics: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook until the onion becomes soft and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add Seasonings: Stir in salt, black pepper, paprika, dried oregano, chili powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well to evenly coat the beef and onions.
  5. Combine and Simmer: Return the cooked potatoes to the skillet. Pour in the beef broth and stir all ingredients together. Cover the skillet and cook for about 10 minutes on medium-low heat until the potatoes are tender and flavors meld.
  6. Add Cheese (Optional): Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top. Cover again and let cheese melt for a few minutes.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat, sprinkle chopped fresh parsley on top, and serve the skillet warm.

Notes

  • Cut potatoes into small, even cubes to ensure they cook uniformly.
  • Add vegetables like bell peppers, corn, or peas for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • Adjust seasonings for personal taste preferences.
  • Use ground turkey as a lighter alternative to ground beef.
