Description

This classic Princess Cake recipe features light and fluffy layers of vanilla sponge cake, enriched with whipped cream frosting and delicately covered with marzipan. Perfect for special occasions, the cake is beautifully decorated with food coloring to create an elegant finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Cake Batter

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs

Whipped Cream Frosting

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Decoration

  • 1 batch marzipan
  • Food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pans: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your cake pans to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir them together until evenly distributed.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Incorporate the softened unsalted butter, milk, and vanilla extract into the dry mixture. Mix thoroughly until the batter is smooth and well combined.
  4. Incorporate Eggs: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition to ensure a light and airy batter.
  5. Bake the Cake: Pour the prepared batter evenly into the greased and floured cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool the Cakes: Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the pans. Once cooled, carefully remove them from the pans and set aside.
  7. Prepare Whipped Cream: In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form, creating a fluffy frosting.
  8. Assemble the Cake: Layer the cake slices with whipped cream between each layer. Then cover the entire cake with the remaining whipped cream, smoothing it evenly over the surface.
  9. Cover with Marzipan: Roll out the marzipan to a thin, even layer and gently cover the entire cake with it. Smooth out any wrinkles or air bubbles for a polished look.
  10. Decorate: Use food coloring to decorate the marzipan-covered cake as desired, adding personal artistic touches.

Notes

  • Ensure the cakes are completely cooled before applying whipped cream to prevent melting.
  • Chill the whipping cream bowl and beaters before whipping for better results.
  • If marzipan is not readily available, you can purchase it from specialty baking stores or online.
  • For a more authentic Princess Cake, consider adding a layer of raspberry jam under the whipped cream layers.
  • Use gel food coloring for vibrant decorations without adding extra moisture.
