Main Ingredients:
- 1 unsliced loaf of thick, soft white bread (such as brioche or milk bread)
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
Toppings:
- 2–3 scoops vanilla ice cream
- whipped cream
- sliced strawberries
- banana slices
- chocolate syrup
- toasted almonds or other nuts (optional)
- powdered sugar for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Hollow out the bread: Cut a square ‘lid’ off the top of the loaf and set aside. Hollow out the interior, keeping the outer shell intact. Cut the removed bread into cubes.
- Prepare the butter mixture: In a bowl, mix melted butter, honey, and sugar. Brush the inside of the bread shell and all the cubes generously with the butter mixture.
- Toast the bread: Place the cubes and the hollowed bread loaf shell on a baking sheet. Bake for 10–12 minutes until golden and crisp.
- Assemble the toast: Fill the hollow loaf with the toasted bread cubes. Drizzle with more honey and add desired toppings like ice cream, whipped cream, and fruit. Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- For a chocolate version, use chocolate syrup in the butter mixture and top with chocolate ice cream.
- Serve immediately after assembling for the best texture.
