- 3 medium apples, peeled and thinly sliced

- 1 cup granulated sugar

Instructions
- Preheat the oven and prepare the pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- Prepare the apples: Toss the apple slices with lemon juice in a bowl and set aside.
- Make the cake batter: Cream the butter and sugar, then add eggs and vanilla. In a separate bowl, whisk dry ingredients and add to wet mixture alternately with milk. Fold in half the apple slices.
- Bake the cake: Pour batter into the pan, arrange remaining apple slices on top, and bake for 40-45 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Prepare the caramel sauce: Heat sugar in a saucepan until golden brown, then add butter and cream. Stir until smooth, add salt, and remove from heat.
