How to Store, Freeze & Reheat

Serve this over warm tortillas with rice and beans, or pile it high on nachos for a fun twist. A dollop of sour cream and fresh pico de gallo brightens it up beautifully.

Leftovers taste even better the next day. Store in the fridge for up to 4 days, or freeze in portions for up to 3 months. Reheat gently on the stovetop, adding a splash of broth if needed.

🍳 Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Toss beef cubes with flour, salt, and pepper in a bowl until evenly coated.
  2. Heat oil in a large Dutch oven or heavy pot over medium-high heat. Brown beef in batches, about 4-5 minutes per batch, until deep golden on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pot, sauté onion, garlic, and jalapeño for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add tomatoes and cook for 2 more minutes.
  4. Return beef to the pot. Stir in beef broth, cumin, chili powder, oregano, and bay leaves. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 1 hour 15 minutes, or until beef is fork-tender.
  5. Uncover and simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes to thicken the sauce. Remove bay leaves, taste for seasoning, and garnish with cilantro before serving.

👩🍳 Chef Elena’s Kitchen Notes & Storage

For extra depth, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce or a teaspoon of smoked paprika with the spices. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
