How to Store, Freeze & Reheat

This casserole is wonderful fresh, but leftovers are just as good the next day. Reheat individual portions in the microwave or pop the whole dish back in the oven at 350°F for 15 minutes to re-crisp the tots.

You can also assemble it ahead and keep it in the fridge for up to 24 hours before baking. Just add a few extra minutes to the bake time if it’s cold from the fridge.

🍳 Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the shredded chicken, crumbled bacon, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, milk, ranch seasoning, and 1 1/2 cups of the cheddar cheese until well combined.
  3. Spread the chicken mixture evenly into the prepared dish. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes, then sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese and continue baking for 5-10 more minutes, until the tots are golden and the casserole is bubbly.
  5. Let rest for 5 minutes, then garnish with green onions if using. Serve warm.

👩🍳 Chef Elena’s Kitchen Notes & Storage

For extra crispy tots, I like to spray them lightly with cooking spray before baking. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days, or freeze the unbaked casserole (without tots) for up to 3 months—just add tots and bake when ready.
