How to Store, Freeze & Reheat

These turnovers are best enjoyed warm, right out of the oven, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, pop them in a 350°F oven for 5 minutes to bring back the crispness.

You can also freeze unbaked turnovers – just assemble them, place on a baking sheet, and freeze until solid, then transfer to a zip-top bag. When you’re ready, bake straight from the freezer, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time. That way, you’re always just 20 minutes away from a warm, homemade treat.

🍳 Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the apples are tender and the juices have thickened. Let cool slightly.
  3. Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into 4 squares (or circles if you prefer).
  4. Spoon a heaping tablespoon of the apple mixture onto the center of each square. Brush the edges with beaten egg, fold over to form a triangle, and press with a fork to seal.
  5. Place the turnovers on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the remaining egg wash. Cut small slits for steam to escape. Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown and puffed. Cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes before serving.

👩🍳 Chef Elena’s Kitchen Notes & Storage

Make sure the puff pastry is properly thawed but still cold – if it gets too warm, it becomes sticky and hard to handle. You can store baked turnovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freeze unbaked ones for up to 2 months.
