How to Store, Freeze & Reheat

These cookies are perfect on their own with a glass of milk or a cup of coffee. For dessert, sandwich two with a bit of jam or chocolate ganache. They’re also lovely alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days—if they last that long! You can also freeze the baked cookies for up to 3 months, or freeze the unbaked dough balls and bake straight from the freezer, adding a couple of minutes to the bake time.

🍳 Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Beat in the egg yolk and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls, roll in powdered sugar if desired, and place 2 inches apart on the prepared sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are just lightly golden. Cool on the sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

👩🍳 Chef Elena’s Kitchen Notes & Storage

For the softest cookies, make sure your butter is truly at room temperature—it should give slightly when pressed. Store these in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or freeze the baked cookies for up to 3 months.
