1. Why This Recipe Works Every Time
In my test kitchen, I’ve made a hundred pasta dinners, but this chicken and broccoli version is the one my family begs for again and again. The secret is building layers: seared chicken for savory depth, quick-steamed broccoli for that vibrant crunch, and a bright lemon-garlic sauce that ties it all together without feeling heavy.
It’s a true one-pan meal, so you’re not juggling multiple pots. The pasta finishes cooking right in the sauce, soaking up all those flavors. That’s why it works every single time—simple steps, big payoff, and a plate that’s gone in minutes.

🍳 Step-by-Step Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook until 2 minutes shy of al dente. Reserve 1 cup pasta water, then drain.
- Meanwhile, heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season chicken with salt and pepper, then cook until golden and cooked through, about 5-6 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add remaining 1 tablespoon oil. Add broccoli and a splash of broth; cover and steam for 3-4 minutes until bright green and crisp-tender. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Return chicken to the skillet. Add cooked pasta, lemon zest, lemon juice, chicken broth, and Parmesan. Toss everything together, adding reserved pasta water a little at a time until the sauce coats the pasta nicely.
- Season with salt and pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Serve immediately with extra Parmesan on top.
👩🍳 Chef Elena’s Kitchen Notes & Storage
For extra flavor, try marinating the chicken in a little lemon juice and olive oil for 15 minutes before cooking. Leftovers keep in the fridge for up to 3 days, but the pasta will soak up sauce, so add a splash of broth when reheating.
